Reason: He sang the song “Passenger” with Chino and that song made Deftones famous. By the way Chi’s voice is horrible. 

You are totally wrong, first, Deftones became known when they released Adrenaline in 1995. Second, Passenger was on their White Pony album which released in 2000. Third, you’re a dumb ass, and should research before you criticize. and Four, Chino has an amazing voice, I love Tool, and Maynard, but he didn’t “make” Deftones. Moron. Oh and it’s Chino, not Chi, it sounds like you’re referring to their bass player, Chi Cheng, (not Sergio).

God damn. Okay; Deftones were around long, long, long before “Passenger” was made. Adrenaline was released in October of ‘95 (and has gone platinum, by the way) and they gained a lot of recognition for having such an innovative sound, and they worked their asses off to receive the recognition. They toured extensively, about two years worth, and they were patient while word-of-mouth promotion turned more people into fans. After their second album, Around the Fur, which was admittedly less successful than Adrenaline at first, was released, “My Own Summer (Shove It)” was featured on The Matrix soundtrack in 1999. The song that truly “made” Deftones was “Change (In The House of Flies)” because it was their most successful single and received a lot of airplay. The track was on the soundtracks for Queen of the Damned and Little Nicky, which were fairly popular movies.

The level of fame that Deftones have acquired is due completely to their hard work, perseverance, and dedication to their music.

Chi’s voice is not horrible. Though, music taste is subjective, so I respect your opinion.

As a note to brainofj, I’m sure she was referring to Chi, namely because she said “Chi” and also because he has done plenty of back up vocals for Chino.
